Who we are
The New Zealand Business and Parliament Trust is an educational charity and is non-political. It is not a lobbying organisation.
The Trust is dedicated to fostering goodwill and understanding between the business community of New Zealand and Members of Parliament.
The purpose of the Trust is to provide Business Study Programmes for Members of Parliament and Parliamentary Seminars for its Corporate members
The Trust was formed in 1991 to help bridge a perceived gap of understanding between Members of Parliament and the business community. The first Trust Board met on 11 December 1991 and a full programme of Trust activities started at the beginning of 1992.
The governance of the New Zealand Business and Parliament Trust comprises a Trustee Council from which come the members of the Trust Board who exercise the legal functions and obligations of the Trust. More details can be found under Structure and Management.
Associate Membership of the Trust is available to current Members of Parliament who successfully complete a three to five day Business Study attachment with a Corporate member of the Trust.
Corporate Membership of the Trust is available to organisations who agree to support the Trust’s aim of advancing business understanding of Parliament and parliamentarians’ understanding of business.
Provisional Corporate Membership of the Trust was introduced in 2015 and will apply to those Corporate organisations who apply to join the Trust outside the allocation of full membership.
