David Seymour MP

David Seymour MP

David was first elected to Parliament in the General Election of 2014 and holds the seat of Epsom for the ACT Party. He became leader of the ACT Party in October 2014. His current roles are a Member of the Business Committee and the Finance and Expenditure Committee.

In November 2015, David was named the Trans Tasman 2015 Politician of The Year

David is a long time member of ACT New Zealand, initially becoming involved in the political party as a leader of ACT on Campus. He first stood for ACT in 2005 in Mt Albert and at the 2011 election he stood in the Auckland Central electorate, which was retained by National. After this election, David worked as a ministerial adviser for ACT’s successful Epsom candidate, John Banks, who was appointed an Associate Minister of Education and assisted with the development of the government’s Partnership Schools legislation.

Before entering politics David worked in Canada as a Policy Analyst for five years for Frontier Centre for Public Policy and the Manning Centre.David went to the University of Auckland where he graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical & Electronic) and a Bachelor of Arts (Philosophy) David is of NgāpuhiMāori descent on his mother’s side.
