As part of Youth Parliament 2019, the New Zealand Business & Parliament Trust announced the winners of its competition at a social function hosted by the Hon Peeni Henare, Minister for Youth. The function celebrated the 25th anniversary of Aotearoa New Zealand’s Youth Parliament.
The NZ Business and Parliament Trust has been proud to be associated with the triennial Youth Parliament since 1997.
This year’s topic was “Choose one big issue facing our society. Describe what Government could do to better enable businesses to make a difference on this issue”. Participants had a choice of three formats, writing an essay, videotaping a speech or a video presentation.
The winner was Shine Wu who received $2,500 for his essay on inspiring innovation by building Aotearoa’s new entrepreneurs.
The 2 runners-up, who each receive $2,000 were William Wood, who made a video presentation on systemic generational poverty and Fiona Wu who wrote an essay structured around environment and sustainability issues.
Highly commended awards were also awarded to Kate Morris, Sophie Dixon, James Macey and Shaneel Lal.
The awards were presented by the Rt Hon TrevorMallard MP, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Peeni Henare MP and Peter Griffiths, Trust Chairman.
