Rt Hon Gerry Brownlee is the 32nd Speaker of the House and became the President of the Trust in 2024. He was first elected as a Member of Parliament for Ilam in 1996 and became a list MP in 2020. Mr Speaker has held significant roles as Senior Cabinet Minister under both Prime Ministers John Key and Bill English and served as the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Minister following the earthquakes in Christchurch in 2010 and 2011. He has also represented New Zealand as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Defence. He is the longest continuously serving member of Parliament.
